About Us
"A young carer is a young person between 8 & 18 years who has to spend a lot of time, as an adult would, caring for somebody in their family. Because of this they miss out on being a child/young person as well as having extra stress because of what they have to do".
Kirklees Young Carers is funded by Kirklees Metropolitan Council, Kirklees NHS and are managed by Northorpe Hall Child & Family Trust.
Kirklees Young Carers Project Aims To:
- Raise awareness of the needs of Young Carers
- Identify and support Young Carers
- To improve services and support for Young Carers
- To enable the voice of Young Carers to be heard
What we do...
- Regular Young Carer Group
This is the main service provided by the project, a relaxed environment it offers young carers the chance to join in social activities, make new friends and have a break from their caring responsibilities at home.
- Young Carer Council
An opportunity for young carers to have their say, and take action on what matters to them.
- Day Trips
Time out from home, a chance to try new things and have fun. From time to time we are able to offer young cares the opportunity to get away for a day.
- Residentials
If their home situation allows, occasionally there may be the opportunity for a weekend break.
- Individual Support
This is a very limited service where priority is given to young carers who are experiencing difficulties.
- Information & Support
We aim to support young carers and their family members, including the person who is being cared for, to provide information of local services to meet their specific needs.
